Ingredients for Moroccan Mint Tea

  • 2 tablespoon Chinese green tea (Gunpowder)
  • 1 bunch fresh mint (Naanaa)
  • 3–5 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
  • 1 liter boiling water

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Rinse the Green Tea Leaves

Place the green tea in a teapot. Pour a small amount of boiling water over it, swirl gently, and discard the water.

Step 2: Simmer and Steep

Place the Green Tea Leaves to the teapot and Place it on a low heat and bring it to a gentle simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the tea to infuse.

Step 3: Brew the Tea Base

Add the fresh mint leaves (bruised slightly by twisting them to release their oils) and the sugar to the teapot. Pour the remaining hot (not fully boiling) water into the pot.

Step 4: Mix and Serve the Moroccan Way

Remove the teapot from the heat. To mix the ingredients thoroughly and develop a rich foam.  

  1. Before serving, pour a small glass of tea and return it to the teapot. Repeat once or twice to mix the flavors evenly.
  2. Serve the tea by pouring it from a height into small glasses to create foam—this is the traditional Moroccan technique.
